Where Can You Buy Art Works in Singapore? Which Local Artists Should You Collect In Singapore?
Building on the legacy of their predecessors, second-generation artists—many of whom were students of the pioneer generation and born between the 1920s and 1940s—played a vital role in shaping Singapore’s evolving visual identity. Their works reflect a deep sense of nation-building, a reinterpretation of Nanyang aesthetics, and an increasing engagement with modernity. Notable second-generation artists such as Ong Kim Seng, Lim Tze Peng, Tan Choh Tee, and Yeo Hoe Koon are celebrated for their artistic finesse and remain highly sought-after by collectors. With long-established reputations and a track record of price stability, these artists continue to command strong demand, often setting new record prices at auctions and exhibitions. Depending on your budget, timeline and art collecting objectives, artworks by second, third-fourth, to emerging artists may all be considered and widely explored. The genre of art, art style, subject matter, to art medium, condition of artwork and provenance may all be factors in determining the price and how collectible an artwork may be! New art collectors may look into private art collections and auctions to find out about the artists to look out for!

Buying collectible artworks in Singapore? The most collectible works in Singapore’s art market are primarily centered on the leading figures of the Nanyang art movement. In particular, the works of the late first-generation pioneers Cheong Soo Pieng, Chen Wen Hsi, Liu Kang, and Chen Chong Swee hold exceptional significance. These four masters were the founding figures and key representatives of the Nanyang School, and their contributions are of great importance to the history of Singapore art.
Equally notable are the works of the Shanghai School (Haipai) lineage in Singapore, led by master Fan Chang Tien, whose legacy was carried forward by his disciples Ling Cher Eng, Chua Ek Kay, Tan Oe Pang, and Henri Chen Ke Zhan. Their artworks are also highly sought after by collectors and remain widely celebrated in Singapore’s art scene.
Among the Second Generation of painters, renowned local artists such as Yeo Hoe Koon, Tan Choh Tee, Ang Ah Tee and Ong Kim Seng have been highly sought after by collectors in recent years.
The works of talented artists such as Fan Shao Hua, Hong Zhu An, and Chua Say Hua have also been very popular.
