Mohammad Din Mohammad (1955-2007) was born in Malacca, Malaysia and migrated to Singapore when he was two years old. He studied art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, majoring in Western painting from 1973 to 1976. Mohammad was known for his provocative work, which combines Western ideas with his cultural background. His works are also deeply rooted in Sufi mysticism, which he practiced throughout his life. He often used symbols and icons to convey his ideas and Islamic philosophies. Calligraphic rendering serves as Mohammad’s signature among his oeuvres that include sculpture, installation and abstraction.
